THE BLAKES L.P
THE BLAKES
LIGHT IN THE ATTIC

L.A anglophiles, The Blakes comprise of two church-bred brothers dealing in Devil-may-care rock’n’roll, in discussion of bad drugs, whiskey and eyeliner clad goupies etc etc. Coming off like a daytime T.V. B.R.M.C, without any of the authenticity, sinful rebellion or murky atmosphere of their Californian cotemporaries. They’re ike Jet but even blander. Roaming the rock misogynist’s graveyard they are especially fond of pillaging from The Stones (‘Pistol Grip’), The Doors (‘Picture’), T-Rex (‘Magoo’) and even The Libertines (‘Modern Man’). The whole thing might have been commendable if they’d held true to their style, but occasionally they like dipping into a cheery kind of Eighties Pop that sounds as good as Dire Straits farting into a kazoo.

4/10
