KASMS
SPAYED
TROUBLE RECORDS

Kasms’ unites various London luminaries, among them Spazzcore forefather and here producer, Rory ‘Test Icicles’ Bratwell, whose mucky envelope-pushing paws are all over this.

True to form, his latest salvo is characteristically un-marshalled and Spayed‘s high camp Noise-Goth is frequently electrifying, christened “ShriekBeat” by its creators.

It’s perhaps not the eyebrow-raising departure of Test Icicles co-founder Dev Hynes’ and his berk-ish routine (From Ritalin-Rock to Chamber Pop: fell swoop), but it’s a damn sight more progressive, not to mention more exciting.

Several highlights include ‘Trenchfoot’ that hurtles us through flickering thunderclouds and arriving on a flaming chariot pulled by twin panthers is ‘Insects’, a stupendously bizarre entity and proof enough of their appettite for travelling uncharted Art-Rock territory.

They also have an ace in the hole in the kohl-eyed Rachael Callaghan, who if she was any more preposterous would wear a black cape. Half-Ari Up, half-Shiva: God of Death, her caterwauling levitates menacingly over Bratwell’s unstable cosmology. John Calvert
